oil on paper on panel
These paintings have brought Hemingway on a long journey with the medium of oil paint. Hemingway entered Camberwell school of art as a student in 1974. By then he was a reasonably proficient oil painter but within six months he had abandoned it for what he calls the magic of egg tempera, which he says was made for him. After a gap of more than thirty years he has returned to oil painting to express himself in this series of what he calls 'continuous line'. The surface to receive the oil is all important, these are oils on paper on panel. He has discarded the use of the brush entirely and works with a precise and delicate under drawing, scraping and dragging the paint across the surface - catalogue available on request.
