This series dates from 2006. The silver vessel was at the centre of Hemingway's family evening meals, it's a simple salt seller. It was the silent witness at countless evening debates with his 3 sons. It holds many secrets. The famous ground breaking film 'Bladerunner' by James Cameron, opens with a giant advertisement on the side of skyscrapers: an ad for Coca-Cola and beautiful Geisha girl light up the gloomy sky. The Geisha girl looks trapped inside or is she just printed on the surface of the building? This started Hemingway's series 'The Genies - the old masters'. In it the old masters break out with fresh verve like genies in a bottle. What promises they offer to us, what magical genies they still remain for all of us who love them today.
