Hemingway has been rather intoxicated by the Renaissance since he was a young student. The voice of its genius still sounds in his ears. Particularly loud is the extraordinary vision and skill of those masters. They were skilled to paint, draw, engineer, design, build, sculpt and founder. Nothing seemed to be beyond them. Hemingway has needed, in the last years, to reach into 3 dimensions for further expression. The pieces which have engaged so much of his time are contemporary furniture. Some are unique, one off. Others are small editions. He is working with concrete, steel, glass, leather and wood. All the work is entirely designed and built in his studios in west Yorkshire. The pieces only give a slight nod to function. Form, as always for him, is god.
